Sharing, Caring & Learning Together

The children are all given a rhyme book every term. Nursery rhymes are of enormous educational value and teach children many concepts and skills.

Nursery Rhymes help children to:

  • Develop language and learn new words
  • Hear the rhythm and sounds of language
  • Develop a sense of humour
  • Move their mouth to make different sounds
  • Learn through repetition and memorisation
  • Develop an understanding of sequence and story structure
  • Develop maths concepts such as number and size
  • Use their fingers, hands and bodies to act out the rhyme
  • Develop listening skills and prepare for reading

Rhymes can be used anywhere at any time. They make a vital contribution to early learning and lay the basis for future success in reading and writing.
