The children are all given a rhyme book every term. Nursery rhymes are of enormous educational value and teach children many concepts and skills.
Nursery Rhymes help children to:
- Develop language and learn new words
- Hear the rhythm and sounds of language
- Develop a sense of humour
- Move their mouth to make different sounds
- Learn through repetition and memorisation
- Develop an understanding of sequence and story structure
- Develop maths concepts such as number and size
- Use their fingers, hands and bodies to act out the rhyme
- Develop listening skills and prepare for reading
Rhymes can be used anywhere at any time. They make a vital contribution to early learning and lay the basis for future success in reading and writing.
